When is the best time to come for a consultation?
The best time to schedule a consultation is when your hair is still growing; normally before beginning chemotherapy or soon after your first treatment, but most importantly it’s when you feel comfortable; please give yourself time to come to terms with your hair loss.
What happens during the consultation?
The consultation takes place in a private room and is all about you, making sure you are comfortable and fully informed of each step of the wig process. The consultation is designed to ensure that you get the best wig that is suited to you – colour, cut, hair direction, thickness and personal style.
Can I bring someone with me to the consultation?
You can of course bring someone with you to the consultation; our private room can comfortably accommodate up to four people which allows you to bring up to three people with you. Whatever you are comfortable with we will work with you.
What type of wigs are available?
We source all our wigs in Germany, our collections offer an impressive selection of modern styles, natural colours and brilliant shades.
What do they all have in common?
The same high quality workmanship and a perfect cut, whether you choose an easy care, synthetic hair wig or the finest in human hair wigs.
I’m going to lose my hair what should I do?
Make an appointment as soon as possible to come for a consultation. We can look at styles that are close to your natural hair colour, texture and style. If you have already lost your hair please bring a recent photograph. We have a wide range of wigs in stock, however if you choose a wig that is outside our stock and we order one in for you it will take 5-10 working days.
My hair is falling out, should I cut it?
This is very much a personal choice and one that we can assist you with. Some people choose to let their hair fall out naturally, while others at the first sign of hair loss choose to cut all the remaining hair off. We are happy to do this for you and will make this experience as comfortable as possible in our private consultation room.
Will my hair grow back after treatment?
Usually hair grows back within a few weeks of finishing treatment. In some cases, it can start to regrow even before treatment has finished. After about 5 or 6 months, you should have a full covering of hair on your head.
When it does grow back, hair can often be a different texture, style or colour. You may notice it is thicker and darker in colour. At first, fine downy hair appears on your scalp and then stronger hair develops. It grows at about one centimetre each month.
I have a medical card, can I still get a wig?
We are an authorised HSE registered wig supplier. If you are a medical card holder the HSE will provide an allowance for medical related hair loss. A specialist letter from your oncology doctor and your medical card number is all you need which will then allow us to claim the allowance from the HSE on your behalf.
I have Private Health Insurance, can I use this?
We can provide you with a receipt that will allow you to claim for your wig through private health insurance. The amount you can claim back will depend on your type of cover. We would recommend that you contact your health insurer for full details.
I don’t have Private Health Insurance or a medical card- what now?
If you do not have a medical card or private insurance, you can claim tax back on any hairpieces you buy. Because hairpieces are regarded as a medical expense, you must fill in the MED1 form when claiming. For more details, contact your local tax office (Revenue Commissioners).
